The short version: Field Recce keeps your recces on your phone. Nothing leaves the device unless you send a report or submit a location to EXT.
Last updated 11 September 2026 · In Color Productions Limited (Co. No. 16212581), trading as EXT. Locations, is the data controller.
What the app collects, and where it goes
| Data | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Photographs and video | Stored in the app's container on your device. Sent only when you generate a report link or submit a location to EXT. |
| Location and heading | Recorded against each recce and photograph on your device, and used to compute sun position on device. Never transmitted for analytics or advertising, and never read in the background. |
| Microphone | Used for sound-level samples and short reference recordings, stored on your device with the recce. |
| LiDAR scans | Processed on device into measurements and a floor plan. The raw scan stays local. |
| Account details | If you create an EXT. account: name, email and a hashed password, held on our servers. Needed only to submit a listing. |
| Diagnostics | Only if you tap Report a problem: app version, device model and an error log. No photographs, no coordinates. |
What we don't do
- No third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. The app contains none.
- No selling or sharing of personal data, ever.
- No background location tracking.
- No access to your camera roll unless you choose to import a photograph.
Report links
A report link is a page holding the recce you chose to share. The link itself is the credential: anyone holding it can view the report and record a decision, so treat it as you would a private document. Links do not expire, and you can revoke any link from the report screen at any time, which takes it offline immediately.
Submitting a location to EXT.
When you submit, the recce you selected — photographs, measurements, plan, readings and notes — is sent to EXT. Locations for review. You confirm at that point that you have the owner's permission to offer the location. If a listing is published we may show the photographs and details publicly on extlocations.co.uk. You can ask us to withdraw a listing at any time.
Legal basis and retention
| Purpose | Basis and retention |
|---|---|
| Running your account | Contract. Held while the account is open, deleted on request. |
| Report links | Legitimate interests. Deleted when you revoke the link or delete the recce. |
| Listings on EXT. | Contract and legitimate interests. Held while listed, plus six years for accounting records. |
| Beta mailing list | Consent. Removed when you unsubscribe or when the beta ends. |
| Diagnostics | Legitimate interests. Deleted within 90 days. |
Deleting your account
In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your account, any listings still in review, and any report links. It is immediate and cannot be undone. Recces on your phone belong to you and are unaffected; delete the app to remove those. You can also email privacy@incolor.film and we will do it for you.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, or ask us to restrict it. Write to privacy@incolor.film and we will respond within one month. If you are not satisfied you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Processors
We use a small number of service providers to host the site, store submitted listings and send email. They process data on our instructions only, and data is held in the UK or the EEA.
Children
Field Recce is a professional tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Cookies
This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The sun chart computes in your browser; if you tap Use my position, your coordinates are used locally and never sent to us.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and for anything material we will tell beta testers by email.
