Field Recce is in TestFlight beta. If something is wrong, or a reading looks off, tell us. On a beta this small every message is read by the people who built it.

Common questions
The sun overlay doesn't line up
Almost always the compass. Hold the phone away from anything magnetic — a car door, a tripod head, a magnetic case or MagSafe wallet — and move it in a figure of eight to recalibrate. Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → System Services → Compass Calibration is on. If it still reads wrong, send us your location and heading and we'll look at it.
Sunrise and sunset are a minute or two out
Expected. Solar position is computed with the NOAA algorithm including atmospheric refraction, accurate to within about three minutes of published almanac times. Local horizon — a hill, a cliff, a terrace of houses — makes a far larger difference than that, which is exactly why you take a sun frame on site.
A measurement looks wrong
LiDAR needs light and texture. It struggles on glass, mirrors, water, high-gloss paint, and in direct sun at range. Get within about five metres, move slowly, and place points on matte surfaces. Check the number against the frame it was attached to and correct it in the recce if it is out. Anything critical — a gate a truck has to pass through — should be confirmed with a tape on the day, and the app says so on screen while you measure.
Can it scan a floor plan?
Yes, on an iPhone Pro with a LiDAR scanner. Walk the room and the recce comes out with a scaled plan — rooms, doors, windows and ceiling heights — which exports as DXF. Capturing a plan is free, like every other part of a recce; the only thing you pay for is a RAMS export.
How do I send the report to a producer?
Bind the report and send the PDF — from the report screen, Send PDF. A report that opens as a link on any phone, updates as the recce does and carries the producer's decision back to you is coming, but it needs the EXT. service behind it and is not in this release.
What does a £39 RAMS export credit cover?
One document. Buy a credit for a RAMS and that document can be exported to PDF as many times as you need, after every edit and every signature, at no further cost. A second RAMS needs a second credit, or Pro.
Restore Purchases didn't bring my credits back
Expected. Credits are consumable purchases, so Apple's Restore Purchases does not return them. The credit lives on the document instead. The document's JSON export also carries its credit: open that file on another phone and it exports there without a second purchase. A duplicated or re-imported copy counts as a new document and needs its own credit. If a purchase failed or a credit has gone missing, email fieldrecce@incolor.film with the App Store receipt and we will put it right, usually with a period of Pro.
Is there promo access for productions?
Yes, as an App Store offer code for Pro. Email fieldrecce@incolor.film from your production and we will send one. Redeem it through the App Store, under Redeem Gift Card or Code, and Pro appears in the app. There is nothing to type into Field Recce itself.
Does Pro come back on a new phone?
Yes. Pro is a subscription tied to your Apple ID and managed by Apple. Sign in with the same Apple ID and tap Restore Purchases in Settings, and Pro is back.
How do I cancel Pro?
Through Apple's subscription settings: on the iPhone, Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Field Recce → Cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal and Pro stays on until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. RAMS documents you have already exported are unaffected.
How do I delete my data?
There is no account, and nothing you record leaves your phone. Delete a recce in the app to remove it, or delete the app to remove everything at once. If you have bought a RAMS export credit or Pro, that sits with your Apple ID, not with us.
My beta build has expired
TestFlight builds expire 90 days after upload. Open TestFlight and install the current build. Your recces are stored on the device and will still be there.
Known in this build
- Sun tracks drift briefly when you move between indoors and outdoors while the compass settles.
- LiDAR measurements have not yet been through a full on-device accuracy pass. Treat them as a good reading, not a certified one, and confirm anything a vehicle depends on with a tape. The app says so while you measure.
- Sound readings rank one spot against another. The iPhone microphone is not a calibrated meter, so the dBA figures are reliable relative to each other and indicative in absolute terms.
- Recces over 200 photographs take up to a minute to bind.
Reporting something serious
If the app loses data, crashes repeatedly, or gives a reading you believe is wrong in a way that could affect a shoot, email us with the date, the location and what you saw. Wrong numbers matter more to us than crashes. A location manager who turns up at the wrong hour because our app said so is the failure we care most about avoiding.
