Environmental Policy

Adopted 15 October 2026 · Next review October 2027

Our commitment

In Color makes film, commercials and fashion work. Production has a real footprint: travel, power, materials, food and waste. We take responsibility for reducing it on every job we produce, and in how we run the company day to day. We measure what we do, choose lower-impact options by default, and share our data openly with clients and partners.

Scope

This policy covers every production In Color produces or services, our company operations, and everyone working on our behalf: staff, freelance crew, suppliers and subcontractors. Producers are briefed on it at the start of every job, and it forms part of our supplier conversations at quote stage.

How we produce

  • Measure every job. Each production is carbon-footprinted with the calculator that fits it: AdGreen for commercials, albert for film and TV. We share the footprint with the client or commissioner on request.
  • Certify where it applies. We pursue albert production certification on eligible film and TV work.
  • Travel. Local crew and locations first. We recce remotely wherever we can, using 3D scans, detailed location libraries and Field Recce reports, before sending people out. Rail before domestic flights; car-sharing and hybrid or electric vehicles where available.
  • Power. Mains tie-in before generators. Where generators are unavoidable, we specify battery or HVO before diesel. LED lighting by default.
  • Sets and materials. Hire and reuse before buying. FSC or PEFC-certified timber and low- or zero-VOC paint. We plan the end of life of every build (donate, rehome, recycle) before it is built.
  • Catering. Plant-forward menus with reduced or no beef, reusable serviceware, water stations instead of single-use bottles, and food waste diverted from landfill or donated.
  • Waste. Segregated waste streams on set, with licensed carriers who report where it goes.
  • Digital. Rushes and deliverables are managed to avoid redundant copies; we prefer storage and services that run on renewable energy.
  • Suppliers. We favour suppliers listed on the BAFTA Albert Suppliers Directory or holding their own environmental policy, and we ask about it when quoting.

How we run the company

  • Paperless by default: digital call sheets, contracts, invoices and approvals.
  • Equipment is repaired before it is replaced; electronics are recycled through certified e-waste routes.
  • We track our own footprint every year (Scope 1 and 2 at a minimum, plus business travel) and report progress in this policy's annual review.

Targets

By October 2027

  • Every In Color production carbon-footprinted.
  • At least one team member completes formal sustainability training (AdGreen or albert Carbon Literacy).
  • Baseline company footprint measured for 2026/27.

Longer term

  • Set a reduction target for company Scope 1 and 2 emissions against the 2026/27 baseline, and publish it here.
  • Align with the screen and advertising industries' net zero pathways.

Responsibility and review

Jonny Kight, Director, is accountable for this policy. On each production the producer is responsible for applying it, and on larger shoots appoints an eco-steward. The policy is reviewed every year and whenever our work changes significantly.
